Top Of The Pop's Lanuage Review

The language used in the Top of the Pops magazines interview contrasts a lot to other magazines.
The headline for the article is kept simple ‘Come to Camp Rock’ and is also an advertisement for the upcoming film the band are featured in. Keeping the headline simple is inviting for the target reader to read as they are most likely to be of a young age and will fill confident to read the interview if the headline uses simple words.
They have also played on the ‘Rock’ as it is a brighter colour and outlined in black, they are playing with this word as it also describes the film in the eye of the reader.
The subheading uses the rule of three ‘screaming fans, ritzy red carpets and police escorts…it’s all in a day’s work for Camp Rock film starts the JONAS BROTHERS’ the rule of three is used at the beginning of the sentence this give the reader a insight in what the interview will be about, have the Jonas Brothers name in capital letters makes it more exciting for the reader their name also stands out form the rest of the text. Their name is also in another colour this makes it stand out from the rest of the text it makes their name more eye catching and looking at the text their name instantly stands out.
When looking at the interview you instantly notice that it is set out in a classic interview form, the question then the answer, you also notice that when answering the questions the band members answer in a group then take it in turns to answer then in a group again. This gives a chance for the reader to get an insight on each band member’s personality.
The interview is also set out in two different colours the questions are in red and the name of the band member is in a lighter red, the answer to the actual question is in black. This makes it simpler for the target audience to read.
The interviewer’s questions are simple questions such as ‘Would you ever date a fan?’ the reader can understand the questions, and the answers the band gives are the answers the readers want to know being a young age.
In the answers to the questions they have used a considerably amount of explanation marks have been used this emphasis the excitement of the answers to the reader it also keeps the excitement running through the article.
The questions asked vary to keep the readers attention, the questions range from there up coming film to their craziest fan story. Each answer to the questions vary it seems that the band or the editor as focused on the answers to some of the questions that others, the focus is obviously more on the questions about ‘camp rock’ as that what the two page feature is about. The length of the answers are also a key point on how they keep the readers attention, each answer obviously varies but compared to other music magazines these answers are very short, this is because of the target audience again, being a young age they audience will not want to read long answers.

media breif

The brief I have chosen is 6th formers I chose this brief as I myself am a 6th former and I am able to know what they like and dislike more than a year 7.Targeting 6th formers will be the core people I am targeting, I am going to be targeting both genders so the magazine can appeal to the whole of 6th form. The working title so far for my magazine is WORDZ, I have recently changed form Criteria to WORDZ, and I feel that WORDZ is more of an appealing title than Criteria. Criteria is more of a high brow magazine title where as I feel WORDZ is not. WORDZ keeps the magazine to be more of a leisure magazine with some academic values as well. The general idea behind the magazine is to keep the 6th former magazine a combination of academic and leisure articles, which will keep the typical 6th former interested to read every issue. It will cover a whole range of topics from how to get success in exams to, who is dating who in 6th form. This particular magazine will promote such things as revision guides as it is a school magazine to cinema’s to promote the leisure actives that the typical 6th former will spend their weekend doing. At the moment I am planning the style of the cover to be bright and eye catching with a primary image of a 6th former and then the secondary image will also consist of 6th formers. At the moment my cover shot will be of 6th formers in the common room, this could change as I am going to take different pictures and then chose the one that I feel most confident for my magazine. The cover shot I will be doing is a mid shot this limits to what I can chose my actors to be doing, as I can not have them playing a sport like football as a mid shot will not show what they are doing, therefore I will have to think carefully of my cover shot. The content of the magazine will be a mix of academic cover lines “5 top tips to pass your exams” and “Mrs Mason all you have ever wanted to know” this sort of content will verify to keep the readers interested in the magazine having the content on all academic subjects will get tedious for the readers and will not appeal to them as much. On the cover I will uses a variety of language, I will use normal English, to slang that is used on text messages and social networking sites such as lol, tbh ect. Using this language will let the target audience know that it is aimed at them and that the cover is fun, this suggests that the whole magazine is not that boring. The magazine I am producing offers a magazine that Is not currently in the market for teenagers at 6th form or college it covers serious topics to silly topics, school magazines are generally boring where as the magazine I am producing offers a serious yet fun magazine that will catch the eye of any 6th former.

Media

-The people in the advert are in their late 20’s early 30’s.
 -Their clothing is formal.
-Their facial expressions are that the man is looking serious but hopeful that he will get the women.
-The woman has a serious expression with a smirk on her face.
-The woman is using direct motive address while the man is starring straight head at the women.
-The women is open towards the man while her head is turned towards the audience, the man is standing straight in front of her as she is in the door way.

-The relationship in the frame is as if they have never met, but he wants to spend a night with her.

-In the frame there are other people in the room (at a party) but they are blurred and are in dim lighting, the lighting is focused on the man and woman.

-There is also a doorframe it suggests that if you wear this particular perfume you will attract the opposite sex, and all the attention will be on the woman.

-The product being sold is Armani code ‘the secret code of women’ made by Georgia Armani, the product is pictured in the bottom right corner, it is enlarged with the title of the product, is to the left of the picture of it.

-The ad is set at a party, as there are other people in the background. This suggests that if you wear the perfume the only man in the room will notice you. The advert has used photography and photo editing to make her skin, hair and make-up perfect, these effects have been used to show the consumer that they will look like the woman if they put on the perfume and have the man she is going to have.

-The colours used are dark and black and the main light is focused on the man and woman.

-In the frame your eyes are immediately drawn to her eyes because they are bold and stand out hugely amongst everything else.

-The image cropped is a mid-long shot. Out side the frame you can see that she is about to go in to a party.

-        The text is small in comparison to the photo seeing as it only takes up the bottom third of it where there is not that much to look at anyway.

-        The brand name Giorgio Armani sounds very classy it gives out this image.

-        The slogan is mysterious as it gives us this way that there is a code to women.

-    The font looks like times new roman, it uses the lilac colour to match the bottle and the rest is white which goes with the black and white dressed theme.
